If you happen to own an iPhone, and you happen to have updated to the 1.1.4 firmware, you can now easily jailbreak, activate, and unlock your phone with a couple of simple solutions. As you may have heard, iNdependence 1.4 beta 5 is out, which will do all sorts of non-Apple approved things to your device from OS X, though if you’re looking for the ultimate cross-platform solution, you probably can’t do better than the latest version Zibri’s all-in-one package, Ziphone 2.5. Both apps make it about a million times easier than this was a few weeks ago, though we’ve seen video of a new solution — jailbreaking directly from iTunes — that could make this process even simpler (though considerably more illegal). Here is what Orange an apple sent out

I am sending you an email to announce a survey by Apple.

A call to Orange France customer service gave some confirmations, some answers, some expected, others less so …

– Update 2 (this would be the correct name, not 1.1.4), will bring new features:
* Support for Flash, files with extension .Docx
* Adding a mini file manager
* Adding a “clipboard” to manage copied and pasted text, and send files to the clipboard via email or bluetooth
* iClips Management (is this the name of apps distributed via iTunes?)
* A more complete bluetooth manager
* iChat accessible only via wifi

– But it would not bring:
* Management of MMS
* Video capture
* Editing of office files

It is almost impossible to know if this is reliable information from an employee of Orange who carried out this survey … .
But one thing is certain, the survey was commissioned by Apple …

 iAno - the newly released iPhone app that turns your cellphone into a piano - and the earlier released PocketGuitar, which does much of the same but with a guitar, it is only a matter of time before we see the first iPhone band. That will be awesomely groundbreaking, and what we ask is that you send us the video. We’ll post it, we promise*. Back to the present, iAno installs on Jailbroken iPhones and offers a fully functioning multitouch piano, as you can see in the great video above. A four-octave keyboard is represented in iAno, and the arrow keys at the top are used to navigate around. The software was put together by a developer going by the name of Mr Aardvark, and he managed to pack in polyphonic sound that allow five key presses to be heard simultaneously. Sweet.

Mr Aardvark also plans on updating iAno with a complete 88-key keyboard, switchable sample sets, recording and playback, as well as support for loading .MID tracks. Well, what are you waiting for? Get composing

If you hadn’t noticed by now, Elmo is rapidly on his way from being a creepy laughing toy — and annoyingly difficult to find during the holidays — to being a full-fledged creepy robot… and even more difficult to find during the holidays. The new Elmo Live, which Fisher-Price is announcing at Toy Fair 2008 this week, can mouth his words like a real-live Muppet, and can sit, stand and gesture as he tells stories, jokes, sings and play games. Of course, we’re sure you can still tickle him and set him on fire, but the depth of interaction Elmo Live brings should surely bring the creepiness factor to whole new levels. Which is why this is potentially the best toy ever. Hopefully you can re-program him to drop kick your Pleo. Elmo Live will be out on October 14th for $60.

The Snow Room was showcased at a recent Hotel Equipment Fair in the ever-sunny resort of Antalya, Turkey and will be on sale in all luxury hotels and spas in 2008. The room will be offered to those hotel guests who have had enough of the blazing sun and unbearable heat, and are looking for a way to cool down - at minus ten degrees the Snow Room will be just the place.

The Snow Room is the inspiration of the MNK Group, who are normally associated with the manufacture of saunas, as they seek to add yet another service to attract guests to five-star locations. A spokesperson for the company made great efforts to point out the benefits of a hot-cold therapy, and pointed to the common practice in north European countries, of using a sauna coupled with cold weather for positive health benefits.

It will be interesting to see the interest shown in the Snow Room as the new summer season begins to heat up; but at minus ten degrees most people will be shivering at just the thought of entering
