Olympus Mju 1030 SW
Posted by Tommy in Uncategorized on 06 21st, 2008| icon3No Comments »

Olympus’ Mju 1030 SW compact digital camera got a little lost in the jumble of cameras that the company released earlier this year, but the folks at Photography Blog have now given the compact shooter its due with a full review. As you might expect, the 10-megapixel camera’s main selling point (its toughness) earned it the highest marks, with its metal case proving to be decidedly studier than the competition — not to mention shockproof and waterproof, although the site apparently didn’t test those features too strenuously. It was a bit of a different story when it came to actually taking pictures, however, with the Mju turning in only “acceptable” results, and only then after some basic tweaking. The fact that you have to pay a fairly hefty premium for all that sturdiness ($399) doesn’t help things either, but if you’re the type that goes through cameras like nobody’s business, it may not be the worst option to consider.

If you have spent too much time in the sun with out any sun lotion on then you will know the effects that happen… pealing skin, blisters, pain and possibly even worse effects then that. The UV Monitor now helps you to track exactly how damaging these effects can be by providing you details of the UV rays around you. It measures 8cm in length and senses Ultra Violet radiation which in turn, provides a readout for you to know what the risk is of you being in the sun. It doesn’t just stop there though. The UV meter calculates exactly how long you can stay in the sun and can even factor in the suncream you are wearing in to the equation. When you have had enough time soaking up the sun, the device will then alert you to tell you to get in to the shade. Perfect :)

Last Tuesday, Lori Mehmen looked out her front door in Orchard, Iowa and this is what she saw. She had a digital camera handy, and somehow managed to take this photo before crapping her pants and taking cover. This, my friends, is why always having a camera nearby is helpful. Oh, and no one was injured during this tornado, fortunately.

This CGI concept Blutsbrueder design caught our eye. It’s from a spread of images they created called “Future Girls” that wanted to guess how normal media gadgets would appear in the future. Predictions include a screen/ self renewing newspaper, virtual maps and these virtual goggles.

Designed and conceived by Franz Steiner, he wondered what the personal assistant might look like in the future. He thinks that there wont be a desktop, headset or even pens - instead there will be only one “all in one”-gadget with sound and speaker systems as well as internet access.

Will she be a robot though, we wonder?
