A rare positioning of planets Venus (top left) and Jupiter (top right) and the crescent moon of the Earth provides a “smiley” effect that captivated Asia Monday night Dec. 2, 2008.

Moon gave the world an encouraging smile.

So at least the way out of the sky over Asia last night. The three most bright celestial objects, Jupiter, Venus and the moon could be seen in a rare position, that the confusion could recall a Smiley.

Formation occurred after the moon passed in front of Venus. Phenomenon that is called a okkultasjon and occur with some years of space.

NASA calls this “the year’s sky show”.
